| Mariano Tezanos guitars are handmade, superb concert instruments and have a very powerful projection and sustain. They are very easy to play even with high-tension strings. The most popular of all is the Maestro model. The luthiers use German Spruce or Canadian Cedar for top, Honduran Cedar for neck and Ebony for fret board. Sides and back are in Brazilian Rosewood (Jacaranda / Bot: Dalbergia Nigra) or Indian Rosewood (Bot: Dalbergia Latifolia) . All are solid materials and are French polished (shellac) for a finish. As far as the soundbords used, if compared directly, the general impression would be that the Spruce has added clarity generated by the characteristics of the wood, especially in the trebles, and the Cedar a bit richer and fuller, though one wouldn't necessarily call it "warm" in the traditional sense. Though you get a wonderful warm sound, it is always clear. Whether it is spruce or cedar the sound is never "mushy”. This is what a player likes about these guitars. The final decision, I guess it just depends on what you are looking for in the sound you want to obtain. It is purely personal! OPTIONAL Madagascar Rosewood (Bot: Dalbergia Madagascarensis) is now offered for back and sides. Madagascar Rosewood is very much like Brazilian Rosewood in terms of color (orange-red), open pores and ink-black lines. It is harder, often heavier, and stiffer, making it an excellent fingerboard material, and a good Brazilian Rosewood substitute in tone qualifications. |
